Buying my first green laser.

I'm looking into buying my first laser. I am planning to use it for a demonstration and would like to pop a row of balloons (maybe 10). I've read that portable green lasers above 100mW would work, so I was hoping for some advice about what to buy. I have a budget of about $400 and would like something that can be delivered in the next few weeks to the United States (I'm in Georgia).

Would that work for my needs or if not, can you suggest something better in my budget? It does not have to be a handheld laser - we can build a platform, case to hold it.

You would be better off purchasing from a more reputable company. Jetlasers, Skylasers (Laserbtb), lazerer, even o-like. Rayfoss has had very review during the past year.

Also for popping balloons, lighting a match, etc, a 445nm 1W+ laser would work better. Although 400mW 532nm will also work.

Just bear in mind that for the demo, anyone there watching it, will need to wear protective goggles. Balloons are shiny, and in the fraction of a second before the laser pops a balloon... you could well end up with a reflection somewhere, where you did not intend.

From my research, it's a matter of "you get what you pay for" when it comes to ordering from relatively unknown sellers.

By all means, you could buy a laser from rayfoss and it could be perfect for your needs. But, on the other hand, don't be surprised if it doesn't turn out to be any good.

However, with a budget of $400, you could easily buy a laser of more than adequate power from a reputable company, or make your own.
