Buying Laser in NZ

Hi there, I'm new here.
I'm interested in buying a laser, but here in NZ international shipping is quite expensive and a lot of sellers don't ship here anyway. I pretty much have to rely on what wholesalers are already shipping into my country.

Now I recently bought a "50mw" green laser from our local equivalent of ebay. I was very disappointed. I remember when my friend a few years ago showed me a green laser he had gotten from the US, I don't know how powerful it was but it was much more than this. I can barely see the beam at nighttime outside.

Nonetheless, it was only $25 and I'm returning it.

Now the problem, is that my options are basically all on our equivalent of ebay - trademe. And the laser auctions don't mention brand.

I've found a seller who sells 50mw and guarantee that is with 5mw of it's rated value. and he sells them for ~$50.
There is another seller selling "200"mw for $60, with no guarantees other than he's burnt a bag with one.

if someone is familiar, is it possible to tell by looking at the packaging and pictures if they are reputable brands? I Know it might not be possible but you never know

There are many other auctions, but those are the two standout ones I believe

If you're going for cheap, why don't you look around those sites that have
free international shipping?
Like Focalprice, Dealextreme, or even DinoDirect.

Does NZ have the same draconian laws on lasers >1mw as Australia does?

No we don't appear to have any laws at all....
