Buying 1mw green laser

Same way people sell them in the US. Customs won't catch them if they don't pass through customs.. which they won't for domestic shipments. I just wonder at how that distributor gets the lasers they sell. I'm sure they come from china like pretty much every other mass produced pointer does.
 





Old-ish member, but still, and this is an old-ish thread, but still again.

I've just had 4 {supposedly 1mW} laser pointers I purchased on EBay confiscated by Australian Customs because they test them now. However, of the four I ordered from good old China they only tested one and canned it because it went 3.3mW, hence because they were all the same type of laser they canned all four without testing all four.

On speaking with Customs they informed me that because 99.9% of 1mW lasers imported from over the ocean exceed that 1mW law they waffle on about they don't test them all because they pretty much guarantee they will be >1mW.

Now one would think that if an individual ordered a laser, using the advertised listed discription <1mW in this case>, Customs would have enough savvy to understand that one does not intend to use that laser for burning holes in the moon or blinding pilots.

I can apply to have them forwarded on to me if I fill out the appropriate application form, but as I am not a business or a professional researcher or such I believe being just a mug member of the public it will be a waste of time as all they will do is quote me the law.

I find it distasteful that everyone in this country is assumed to be a hoodlum because the odd few have pointed lasers at aircraft. I only want one for detecting metallic particles in water, in my home.

I just read here that if a beam of light is visible from a laser, that laser is >1mW, is that correct?
 
I'm going to send you a pm regarding some information of getting lasers past customs. I'm from perth to.
 
Oh and dont buy ones off ebay i did the same as you. It got seized :) oh also you could get fined mostly a warning letter

I'm located in country SA.

It's damn annoying that they don't consider the fact that the laser would have a <1mW sticker on the pen and consequently I would have known the legal requirement here.

They certainly must be policing these things, with total disregard for those who want/need them for legitimate and/or personal use. We are becoming so institutionised, policed, dictated and controlled nowadays it's becoming painful.

It was most likely to be a error within the laser pointer it self.

Dragonlasers is quality which is great.

My freind who unfortunately moved back to New Zealand,
has many lasers from dragonlasers and all of them work up to there standerd if not higher. This guy must of got unlucky and brought a broken one but after he returned it i wonder what happend.

Also i got my freind to meter his 50mw viper and it put out 55mw.
Sorry to say this guy brought a dud. Which dragonlasers will fix.

Also this RHD guy seems to have no luck lol.

Anyway dragon lasers is quality their 1w Spartan is just pure quality better then WickedLasers.

Atleast we manage to get the item you payed for and not wait a bloody year.

Anyway,
Dragonlasers doesnt remove negative comments they let their customers read EVERY review this 50mw malfunction is on their facebook page for all their fans to see and they do leave it on their. So i wouldn't be to worried about this one - off situation im sure dragonlasers would improve if it has anymore problems.

So are you on DL's payroll or what? rhd is FAR from the only person to have bad luck with DL lately.

I mean hell. DL didn't even refund the full amount of the rhd's 589.. The amount they refunded was $52 LESS than the cost of the laser.. even excluding shipping. If you actually READ the thread I linked, the threatened chargeback was merely to reclaim the $52 that they 'left out' of the refund...

But if you want to continue to buy from them and recommend them. That's fine. It's your money. Just don't be upset or surprised when other people recommend against them.

And BTW. It's actually cheaper just to buy straight from CNI than it is to go through a reseller like DL. It's just less convenient since resellers generally keep stock, and CNI builds the lasers as they're ordered.
