That's crazy...I wonder, how long is the natural gas supposed to keep it burning?

Underground coal fires can be crazy like there. There's a mountain in Germany where the coal underneath it has been burning continuously since 1688. Yes, that's over 300 years. Another coal seam near there burned from 1476 to 1860, almost 400 years.

There are currently over 100 coal fires in the US alone. I think the famous one is the Centralia, Pennsylvania coal mine fire that has been going since 1962, causing the town above it to be abandoned/condemned.

That is a pretty crazy picture though, can you imagine going out for a hike and coming across something like that? "Door to Hell" sounds about right for the looks of it.

This reminds me of the 9/11truthers and their insistence that the WTC rubble could not have been burning for months.

I am pretty sure that #3 have some big signs about swimming and sailing on the lake. :D
