Building your own laser (united states)

I have researched laws starting at the State level (Indiana) but can't find anything at the federal level regarding the construction of your own laser for personal use. Are there any restrictions?

I noted some issues with importing lasers (from O-Like) and them getting confiscated at customs but nothing on the construction of such.

You may build, for your own personal purposes, whatever you want.
It gets sticky if you introduce them to trade.
