BR pen from China - module and driver

Nice pics in that other thread, Pontiacg5! :kewlpics:

At 200ma max, that also looks like it could also be a great inexpensive boost driver for a PHR or SF-AW build!

If the brass module is non-focusable, couldn't you just attach the driver to the front half of an Aixiz?

Did you get a chance to work-up a schematic on that driver yet?

and J107 is the resistor, though I have no idea what value would that be...

Eudaimonium, after reading through that thread Pontiacg5 referenced above, doing a little digging, and noticing perhaps a stripe on one side of that J107 component in the pic, I'm wondering if that might actually be an electrolytic cap? Say perhaps a 6.3V 100uf?

The module slides out fairly easily out the front until you get to where the glue was...

It does have a standard Aixiz lens thread...

That sounds like the module is full-width (like a DX green module), and not the reduced diameter plus spacer rings like what roddenberry reported - is that correct?

BTW, you had mentioned in another thread that you had also taken-apart / were going to post pics of, the famous etimeshop model BR pen? -

This laser has a boost driver (obviously) that is very respectable looking. I hope to have some pics and specs of it soon. They might be a good source of drivers for diodes needing a lower current.

I'll post pics tomorrow

In this thread here -

Given that this brand seems to provide the best "bang for the buck", and is definitely overpowered, it likely has a good boost driver as well! And unlike the motel guy, this one also comes from a reputable vendor! I would be very interested is seeing your pics of the insides of that model, and I know that roddenberry -

I'd like to compare the guts of this laser with the ones sold by etimeshop... anyone has pictures of the inners of those pens?

as well as others here would like to as well! :)

All the pics and stuff you are looking for are in the Laser diode replacement, not what you think, thread I posted a link to above. However the pen in those pictures came from motel268, not etime.

As far as making it focusable, you would have to extend the connections between the diode and driver. The driver cannot move because it holds the switch, and the module is a good 1" away from the opening of the host. You could use a aixiz focusing ring if you want, as it uses a normal aixiz lens.

The module is bigger than a aixiz module, and it has no rings or anything. it is just a little thicker than a aixiz. You can see pics in the thread I posted above.

Hey, roddenberry!

As for the driver itself, it may indeed be an interesting source of efficient driver circuits. I'll see if I can make a schematic of the circuitry and determine the R and C values.

I would be VERY interested in seeing that!

With the popularity of higher voltage diodes, and many of the popular hosts being of the single-cell variety, seems like everything needs a boost driver now. God knows we could use some cost-effective alternatives!

Yeah, I should get to it... I've been busy like crazy these past days, but I have a relatively quiet weekend coming up for Canada day (Jul. 1st) so I'll sit down and "reverse engineer" that little board. That way, we laser DIYers can have all the specs when we play around with those cheap little pointers from the land of the great wall.

For now, I'm going to spend the weekend at the Montreal Jazz fest and catch as many shows as I can, including front row seats for Victor Wooten! W00t!

Robert

Hopefully you made it back from the jazz fest in one piece?

Wondering if in all the "haze" and confusion over there, perhaps your short-term memory took a "hit", and you accidentally forgot about this thread? ;)
