Blue Ray Took A Little Nap Tonight  ESD????

had my blue ray running tonight walked away from the desk to look at the beam and it was cool. I walked back (carpet) had a lumia piece of glass in my hand, now when I held the lumia wheel it touched the aixiz mount and the diode went completely out. Was that ESD or a reflection off the glass making it back into the diode?

I am now sad :-/

Extra Sad Day: Effectively Shitcanned Diode

yep that was probably esd
thats why i always solder a cap or a zenner diode across the diode

Well i was using a DDL CKT and there is a diode across a 1n9001 but I dont think it is aZENER. Could one put a zener in paraell with the 1n9001 and fix that problem?

Re: Blue Ray Took A Little Nap Tonight  ESD????

whats the rating on the cap that you use with the diode?

Re: Blue Ray Took A Little Nap Tonight  ESD????

I am using the DDL CKT the cap is a 47 micro @ 35 V. One problem I have is I am using a 10k pot and a 10k in series with the pot because radio shat dosnt have 100 ohm pots and 100 ohm resisters. I cant find 1 ohm resisters to see what current I am running. Basically I am just flogging stuff together to work because I cant get the parts i need.

Re: Blue Ray Took A Little Nap Tonight  ESD????

Did the diode go COMPLETELY out? As in, not even a dull purple-ish glow? Usually when they die, they dont fail outright. There is usually a small amount of light that still comes out. I'm not saying that they never black out when they die, it's just not very common. Check all your connections and all that good stuff, your diode might be alive still!

Now, if it has a dull purple glow and is still pulling full current, it's dead. :-[

I'm afraid that is your main problem.

why did you think a 10k pot would work?

if you don't have a 1-ohm resistor, but do have a multimeter, you can just use the multi's current measuring; it's not as good but better than nothing.

Thank you for follow up guys - Yes it is black as my ex wifes soul.

I used a 10 k because I dont know any better - I have an other 803T which i can hook up and run

I guess I need to go to mousers and order me about 10 of each part.

With all the data on this site you would think there is a page for "circuit for a 803t" and "here is a circuit for a LOC and how to hook up the pins"

I am not very good with electronics, but I am one bad a&& mo fo when it comes to big lasers! So we all have talents in different areas...mine is not electronics

But I really do appreciate any time that others give freely, I just hope I can do the same sometime!

Gooey guss maby I can talk to you about a bit of help.

Re: Blue Ray Took A Little Nap Tonight  ESD????

I don't mean to discourage you by what I posted; but to work with stuff like this you need to understand that there are reasons for the values of the parts. If you can't get the right parts, you need to either know how to figure out what else will work; or be patient until you can get them.
