Blue Penta-beam pointer

Last year I lost my hopes on getting a GH04C06X9G for a multi-beam blue pointer, so I began looking for a multi-diode solution.

After seeing how close the new Qualas modules have the diodes mounted, I decided to try focusing all of them with a single big long FL lens

So I got a Nubb38t with 2 banks of 5x 455nm LD’s in series. Removed one of the little lens set and put some zoom flashlight lens in the front.
It did work at most, lots of artifacts but it cleaned a little by masking the raw output before the lens!

Next challenge was driving this in the flashlight body of my choice: a Convoy Z1.
This was solved with my Polyboost driver and 2x 18350 batteries pushing 1A at ~17v through the LD array.

I’m still amazed with the size of this thing!
The diodes have only 1mm offset and are deflected by tiny little mirrors.

Still looking for a better lens, any suggestions anyone?

The size that fits on the body is 40mm/36mm (with and without “collar”) and ~22mm FL.

Edit: The masks I made in 10mm to 28mm size do work as adapters!

This means that any lens on that size range with a “tab” and FL up to 22/23mm would fit.

Tried with a 18mm acrylic lens, but no better than before as expected.

Very nice Paulostool, I'm a big fan of multiple beams myself, here's a thread I made of my multiple beam musings with some pics, I also have some new ideas that I hope to find time to work on someday.

Sheltering in place and being somewhat bored I bought a used projector for cheap with 2300 hours and harvested 24 x M-140 diodes that work very well, I am driving 4 laser diodes in series @ 1.6a using a LM338 as a current regulator using 0.8 ohms across the adj. and output pins and 8 x 18650 in series,.....my expideted mounts are angle brackets giving me X and Y adjustment so I can converge the beams where ever I want to.........thinking about what else I can do with all of these diodes.......maybe knife edge a bunch ? Anyway just goofing around and thought I would post a couple of...
