big problems with sharp 185 mW 638 nm diodes

Dear Paul,

this collet type heat sink is only made for testing diodes. Sso they will only run for seconds. With 250 mA, the heat sink did not even get warm.
I could, of course, build a perfect heat sink, but this device works well for his task.

But I have another question. I could not find how to send a personal message to a member. Any advice is welcome.

best regards

Edgar

You can click on the envelope icon next to your user name at the top of the page to start a private conversation. If the heat sink doesn't warm up this could be a sign that it doesn't transfer heat well from the diode. For only a couple of seconds at 250 mA, the diode could be just getting a few degrees hotter than ambient. It depends on the diode used.

Hello,

to bring this thread to an end.
As I wrote before, X-Wossee will send me a new driver as refund. It is highly probably, that the driver was defect just from beginning.

Although it is not known exactly, how the diodes died, DTR gave me a full refund. That was very gentle and I did not expect that he would do this.
I think, it was not really fair from my side to put his name in connection with my problems in this forum. Sorry for that.
I will give the sharp diodes another chance after my holydays.

best regards

Edgar

Hello,

a week ago, I got my new diodes from laserlands together with a free gift, an antistatic band to connect with my wrist.

I tested one diode with my test device and it worked fine. After connecting it with a tested 500 mA driver, I set the driver to max. 300 mA.
One of my glas lenses seems to be dirty, but another worked. I am satisfied with the beam quality and divergence.

On the attached picturesIMG_0201.jpgIMG_0202.jpg you can see my first anodized black aluminium heatsink.

best regards

Edgar
