;D Just when you thought you had seen it all.

Well there are no laser diodes I know of with IR filters built into them.

It is the easy way of making a "open can" diode

Oh heck yeah...I agree. This place is a gold mine of knowledge. Of course if you order a meredith module, make sure to get the 5.6 mm to 9 mm adapter, the mounting block and the module with the acrylic lens. I ordered an extra adapter so I can just swap them out for testing different diodes if I need to. I know meredith is more pricey that Aixiz, but the parts are nicer too. And last time I ordered it only took a couple of days to get to me.

Well I'm set as far as hardware...

Qty Description Unit Amount
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 each (LDC-MB-1) Mounting Block for $5.00 $5.00
LDC-1 & 2

1 each (LDC-1) Laser Diode Collimating $25.00 $25.00
Lens (Acryilic)

1 each (LDA-1) 5.6mm to 9mm Laser Diode $2.00 $2.00
Case Adaptor

Now to save up for that 1MW LD and some lower powered ones also.

Oh and I'm waiting for that ebay guy to put up more of those stacked TEC coolers, I will get a few of those as well.

If you mean PKUNLIMITED I think he sold them all...it has been awhile since he listed them. A few weeks ago I e-mailed him and asked him if he was going to list any more. He replied and said he would in a few days if he had any left. I have not seen him list any since.

But keep searching ebay for peltiers....you never know when someone is going to list some nice ones for cheap.

interesting idea, don't know what good it would do but remove any possible built in IR filters.

ehm.. For that price, I'll stick with my Dremel and a thin diamond wheel, thanks. Haven't killed one by that method yet, but it does take a steady hand.

Does anyone have a good idea on how to (thermally) connect the entire aixiz module to a flat surface?

I'm having trouble finding anything suitable in your regular DIY stores iron collection, and little luck coming up with anything sensible otherwise... they should make square modules just for us :)

Is the module thing round or something. I used to use these round collimator tubes from thorlabs and just bore a hole in an aluminum block and then mount them in there.

It's round indeed, 11-12 mm in diameter. I doubt the size of the module is really exactly a (metric) value, making it harder to drill a hole into something that fits it exactly.

Well I found some Peltier coolers that are round and include a heatsink.
How large a LD do I need to fit these? ;D
