Best Place to Buy ~100 mW Green Laser *Pointer* Running on AA/AAA Batteries?

Btw did you order a 80mw ??and you should email for sure its been quite a while

Yeah, sorry. Placed my order for the 80mW violet, blue, green, and red lasers. I think a great demo to show during open houses would be how poor our vision really is in terms of an uneven color response.

Since you are going to use it for the sky most often im guessing for your work field my moneys on that you would like green the most .. Brightnes wise and for sky usage just my 2 cents

Oh yes, green'll be used the most. But the others are scientifically informative. And fun ...

Unfortunately, no. After my foray into this stuff three weeks ago, I thought one would be good to have. Then I saw that they start at a few $hundred and changed my mind.

I had the same issue myself. It took me 5 months into the hobby to decide I had to break down and get one.

I e-mailed them 70 minutes ago. 5 minutes ago, FedEx showed up with the lasers.

Observations (bad): Cases/lasers were slightly dirty, as in, after handling, my fingers were slightly blackened and it looked pretty gross when I washed my hands in the sink. Blue and violet lasers has a very slight very high-pitched whine to it that disappears after being on for ~20+ seconds.

Observations (good): Lasers work! Always a plus. Though the batteries in the green one go in the reverse way from the others, which is confusing at first.

Observations (weird): Violet laser is something my eyes do not want to focus on. I shined them all into a room ~20 ft away to glance at when making sure they work, and it was fine except for the violet which seemed like a large disk. When shined closer (e.g., a dark surface a few feet away, it's a dot as expected. So, something weird with my vision, or maybe poorly collimated that only shows up farther away.

Observations (neat): Violet laser works as expected on bleached items, showing blue instead of violet. And, unexpected, I have a piece of optical quartz which glows very slightly reddish orange when the laser is shone through, and the glow persists for about a second after the laser is turned off.

The whine that you are hearing from the blue and violet lasers could be that they are running boost circuits. They stop making that sound once everything warms up. I have heard that sound from my larger 532nm when its cold before.

Case positive is pretty common for greens.

Your eye's reaction to the 405nm is totally normal, I noted the exact same thing with my 405s. I get the same effect with a perfectly focused 405 that I have running through a G1.

That is a rather interesting observation with your quartz. I wonder if its possible that it has some phosphors in it or something. Now I want to dig up my random quartz crystals wherever they ended up XD

Good to know about the noise.

Weird to know about the eye's reaction to the violet pointer.

Regarding the quartz, it does not do this with my other quartz crystal. So, I'm thinking that it's an impurity that's fluorescing. From this page, it looks similar to the color of some of the minerals under the long wave UV, which makes sense. Very similar to the deepest orange one towards the upper left in the image sequence half-way down the page.

Something I forgot to mention -- beam visibility. Blue and green are visible in my no-direct-sunlight and not-lit office. Violet is visible in darkened room. Red not really.

PM'd. Also does anyone know the 10% discount code that astrostu refers to? I did a quick search on the site, but couldn't find it. Considering picking up a green 80mW as well. Thanks.

I have some of those and they block 532nm quite well.

No prob what color did you get? Also u get the ir filter i didnt. They sent me an email yesterday and they said they shipped it. It might take a week for them to ship it. Im probably going to do a review also :)

Green HL 80mW 532. I did get the IR filter installed. It was only two bucks, so why the hell not ya know? Today was the second day of production for me. Hopefully they'll continue to update me and let me know when it ships. I did their new China Air shipping as it was dirt cheap and I'm not in a hurry. I imagine it'll get here right around X-Mas. Didn't plan it, but I bet customs gets slammed this time of year. Hopefully that will work in my favor.

BTW, those goggles do even better for 445nm but they can work for 532nm. If you get anything above like 200mW you may want to consider better goggles for once your wallet recovers from the laser costs :P
