Best Cheap 3AAA Host?

i've been wanting to get a host that uses 3 AAA

something similar to the mxdl but bit cheaper so i can possibly fit a ddl driver and an axiz module

does anyone know if the head screws off of this host?

oh and, i currently only have 2 lithium 10440 batteries

i heard something about using a spacer to fill in the third AAA battery?

how does that work?

Try your local liquor store. They normaly have these on the counter for $5.

And its a battery blank you want. Try radio shack or just solder a wire to short the connections. This will work for a red or green LD. If you want a blue LD then go buy another battery.

EDIT: don't forget that you will need magnet spacers if you want to use the 10440 to fit into a aaa spot.
 
Almost, they don't have the same tip to them. You may get lucky, I am just trying to save you from the frustration I endured.
 
Honestly, I think you will end up having a lot of trouble trying to fit a DDL driver into a small host. I know I've tried, and even trying to fit it into a big host such as the MXDL can get frustrating (though I have fit DDL drivers into VRRRY small spaces, even using techniques like grinding the heatsink of the LM317 off). I suggest you invest in the MXDL host if you can, because it is a really nice host and is worth it. If you cannot, I'm not too sure you will be able to fit a DDL driver in some of those hosts, and may end up having to use a rckstr driver or something else. Additionally, if you're trying to go for cheap, what were your plans for the heatsink? I mean, you could use the old washer method, but I was just curious.

Edit: It also depends if you're building a red or blu-ray as mentioned. If red you only need two lithium ion batteries, if blu-ray you need three (if you're using DDL driver). However, if you're going for a REALLY cheap red build, I just made one today. Find a flashlight that uses 3x AG13 batteries, and you can just wire it up directly to your red - no circuit driver needed. The reason why is because those cheap AG13 batteries can't give more than the 420+ma the diode can handle. Thus, it wouldn't be at full power, but it should be over 150mW at least (i'm not sure exact, i didn't meter mine yet).

and yes im gonna use washers as my heatsink, but i dunno what size to get as of right now cause im still trying to decide for a host
 
alright i bought the host, it was 3 bucks so might as well give it a go

when it arrives ill post some pictures up and some dimension

it look pretty similar to how the mxdl works

ill just sand off my driver board if its too big
