I am a newfound laser addict, after seeing one of my good friends with a green one that he uses for star stuff... What would you recommend for me, I am willing to spend about 50 bucks.
also, link to anywhere I could buy it (In US)

Lasers are not toys, so please don't "play" with them. (No personal offense intended)

thanks!
I guess that does sound stupid saying "Play"... I just want to be able to point out stars with my astrology buddies (It is my major in college)

Any sites selling within the US, you are going to pay a higher price.
There are several Chinese sites where you can buy a awesome 532nm (green) star pointer for under $50
Look under Companies or in the B/S/T section here.

Here is a link to get you started.
50mW transformable green laser/adjustable [OLV650] - $39.99 : O-Like, Quality Products, Great Prices

They ship to the US and I have never heard of any lasers form this company getting confiscated by customs. (they mark them as flashlights)
Search for more info. on this company and you will find only good comments about them. (other then slow delivery times), but that's true of any Chinese company.
They test all their laser's outputs and stand behind them if you have a problem.
Good luck.

The FDA requires a key switch & other safety features for a >5mW laser to be legal in the USA. Your friends laser may not have had any safety features at all since you can buy from many Chinese sites.
They can do eye damage from reflections but if you do solely use it for star pointing your good. Be aware that simply shinning into the sky could be illegal in some areas & I would think depending on how they wish to interpret the laws. Of course pointing it at aircraft has landed people in jail.
You may have already be aware of these things but I thought it best to mention them. :D

o-like is great, laserlands ones cost a bit more but offer key switches.
http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/review-compilation will point you to other good sites too.

If you don't get one with a key switch please keep it locked away if you stay somewhere with children or teens.
Besides them getting hurt you can be charged with being liable since its hazardous & illegal.
