beam combiner for more power?

Looking for ideas/ suggestions/ links for combining two greens for more power. I see that Nova and other firms offer beam splitters, but I don't see combiners. I'd like to take these two DX30's I just received and combine their output. Can this be done in DIY fashion, with prisms perhaps, or is there a cost effective product?

A few people have touched on this in another thread tho I couldnt find it. Basicly if you run the two lasers parallel to eachother, then bounce each laser off a mirror and have them meet eachother on a third mirror. However I am not sure you will gain power, since you lose power with each bounce of the beam. You need really high quality mirrors.

Graph paper was suggested to help align the beams. Good luck!

When you did this with the rangefinder, were you able to get more total power? I'd like to combine two greens.

I have not tried that, the camera cost £1 + p&p from ebay, have a look for a Zorki 4, it wouldn't break the bank to get one and try.

I am using it to combining green and red to get yellow.

Sorry, but you can't exactly do it. If you want to split a beam, you can try thinking about how to physically do it: well, get a mirror that reflects some of the light and lets some of it through. Now, try thinking of how to combine them. Tricky, ain't it?

If you have two linerally polarized beams, it is possible to combine them using a POLARIZING beamsplitter in reverse, however this trick can only be used to combine 2 beams maximum. You cannot repeat it with another PBS and combine a third beam.

You can also use dichroic mirrors to combine different wavelengths, and you CAN do more that two beams this way. If you got two 532nm beams though that doesn't help you.

Interesting. I guess the complexity and expense of it is the reason why there's little that comes up with web searching. Oh well, I did extract a nice little beam splitter from an expired DVD burner and I may try the combination rog8811 mentioned to get a yellow result just for fun (although the Zorki's I'm seeing are expensive unless I try to bid smartly). I think I'll pass the power on to more advanced users

I made up my first group buy LD into an Aixis module, mounted it with my greenie behind the rangefinder and this is what I got...I had to press buttons and hold cameras ect so photo isn't perfect but gives the idea.
