Batteries for max power?

I just bought this blue laser from a dude in China, but it's without batteries and I am not sure which ones to buy. It needs two 16340 batteries, he says.

The laser should be able to power out 200mW (real output power the seller said, although it says lower in the add). I tried a 18650 3.7V 6800mAh battery that I had from another laser, but the beam was very weak and certainly NOT burning power.

So my question is, will it have higher output power with two 16340 batteries 3.7V? Shouldn't it be the same power output, regardless if you use one 18650or two 16340? Some people say yes, some say two of the 16340 will give 7.4 V and therefore more output power.

Which is true?

Another issue is apparently lasting time. The 16340 I have seen with a max of 2000mAh.

Which batteries to buy and where?

Diodes have a minimum current AND minimum forward voltage requirement.... Blues typically use a driver that needs 6-7 volts in order to provide sufficient forward voltage to the diode, and thus are designed for (2) cells in series. So it isn't about "power", it is about "voltage" and the specific diode and driver used. For a better understanding, go read up on the relationships between voltage, current, and power.

Bottom line.... If the laser is designed for (2) cells in series, then using (1) cell will not provide sufficient voltage.
