Bad Conductivity, How Should I Fix?

My cheap LEDShoppe pointer has one major flaw: the base was made poorly, so conductivity sucks ass between the positive battery terminal and module. In fact, I estimate I'm loosing between 30 - 50 percent of max power due to this problem. A temporary solution is wrapping the base with foil to facilitate better conduction between the back of the base and the outer metal casing, but I would like to hear some better suggestions.

A small rare earth magnet & cleaning (or sanding) off the inside surface of the end cap

Peace,
dave
