title says it all - if anyone has experience with omnichrome argon lasers, please let me know as i still need to find the pinout of the remote connector (p2)

Sam's site is great and they have the schematics for a lot of omnichrome lasers including the head i have, but not the power supply which has a totally different remote connector

also if pseudo has any extra umbilical cables laying around i would be happy to take one off his hands ;)
 
That is a FORTUNATE thing about you all across the pond....these Argon lasers are pretty much plug and play for you ! Most US houses have one 220v outlet in their house, and that is for the clothes dryer ! My wife would murder me if I kept on unplugging the dryer to lase things hehehehehehe

Well....

I guess you could dry clothes with it.....Nice and Crispy..but dry none the less... :D

So what does the sticker say? If it says 500mW max on the sticker, the output will be only around 100mW.

Lawl. What you have to do is poke around at wires with a multimeter (usually in the boiler room) until you find a 240V source and attach a cord and plug. But most lower power argons (<200mW) can be run off of 110V. Sure, they drain all 15A of the circuit, but it works :) The only laser I have that MUST run off of 240V is my CO2

i just ordered a power cord for the PSU (it does require 220v so i will be using a dryer plug) i'm gonna try and pick up some hefty power cabling at a local hardware store and try and wire the head to the supply since it seems these cables are impossible to find
 
small update, completed the wiring and fired it up, but with the result i had been fearing - the ion discharge won't ignite

but- it IS operational and it DOES lase, so all is not lost yet ;)

this may be a silly question, i know very little about argon lasers - but what is the ion discharge exactly, and what is it for? i mean, if the laser works without it then....?
