Hey everyone,

My 2nd post on the forum, been lurking a long time; bought my first lasers from o-like 2 days ago:

Blu-ray 200mw 405nm

Are my goggles ok for both lasers? I know they cover both wavelengths. But concerned about the power of the 405.

Also, are these good beginners lasers? Do I have everything I need to start using?

IMO od5 is definately ok for these two lasers (an od of 5 will decrease ur 200mw to 0.002mw) :) yep these lasers are good for beginners, just be careful and make sure you wear ur goggles
 
Ahh that's reassuring to know!

Also, do you have an opinion of o-like? Am I likely to get under-spec'd lasers? If so, by how much?

Also, what would be the burning power of the 200mw 405? matches? black bags?

Finally, the 50mw green is unfocusable.. (I think) so what kind of distance should I expect from it? And what kinda divergence? Do they come 'pre-focused'?

im fairly sure that olike will stay to spec and sometimes go over, i have a 200mw violet and i cannot light matches but i have a feeling its just the matches. i can melt black plastics and pop balloons with ease though. yes the green will come prefocused to have optimal distance i think, but seeing as there are no specs divergence could be anything
 
Is your 200mw focusable? I'm hoping to be able to light firework fuses from a couple meters away.

What sort of distance would I get on a 50mw green? In comparison to, say, a 200mw. Are we talking hundreds of meters?

And when I get the green, what should I look for as an acceptable divergence? 10m away, 3cm diameter?

yes my 200mw is a homemade in a aixiz and focusable. ive never tried lighting fireworks fuses so i dont know how much luck you will have, but i have seen other people doing it successfully before (kendall from hightechdealz.com). for the distance of a green we would be talking a few hundred meters definitely, possibly a km?
 
power has little to do with how far the laser will go, it will still diverge at the same rate, for example the spot size will increase at the same rate but per cm squared the power will be higher with the higher mw laser
 
Surely more power means the light will be visable for a further distance? With ever increasing divergence?
 
the light will be more visible for a longer distance but not at an effect as great as 2xas much mw= 2xas much distance
besides, the human eye will not be able to see anywhere near that far anyway :)

I have a blu-ray PHR diode using 135mA (so approx. 135mW) and it lights matches almost instantly when focused - both red and white tipped ones too. 200mW should EASILY light matches.

Now whether your laser or the o-like blu-ray are actually putting 200mW can only be truly know by testing it with a Laser Power Meter (LPM).
