Anyone use Teflon tape to tighten Aixiz threads?

Has anyone used teflon tape (plumbers type) to reduce thread slop on the Aixiz-type modules?

I tried it with one of my DX modules and it works quite well. All you need is a wrap or two (being careful not to get any near the aperture). I cut mine in half length-wise.

I haven't tried it yet but I think it is a good idea. My Meredith module has some slop in it too but it isn't as bad as my Aixiz. If only they would make them with finer threads.

I reported this many months ago. Don't let the tape get in the light path.
Those little springs they supply work good too !!

This is good advice.  Very good advise.

While the teflon tape snugs up the threads very nicely, it does have a tendency to shred.  That's exactly what happenend to mine.  The teflon "string" made its way down to the LD and buggered up the front window.  I am working on a thread with pics to show the damage.

If you are going to use teflon tape - be careful!  I do not recommend using it.

Gosh Mike, you are a know-it-all, really! Glad your on our side. ;) :) ;D 8-)
TEFLON tape is one of my favorite greatest inventions.
Wind. Righty Tighty(clockwise), Lefty Loosy(wrong).

You can break it pulling it lenthwise and that makes tape width get skinnier too.
I use sharp sissors to cut and not leave those strings.
(stretch it lenthwise and the width reduces)
Or fold in half widthwise.

Wrap tape 1/2 as wide as length of mail thread, centered, 2x around TIGHT to prevent that awfull hang-out! It's good to 600 degrees too.
Does anybody know a solvent? I don't.

Sometimes, I wad a piece between my back molars to stop a zing( :'(ouch) WORKS great!
Stupid dentist told me nothing wrong! More BS! Sometimes cracked teeth heal, otherwise with cough up $1000 to get tooth capped, (which one?) someday ,maybee, damnit....@#@$!&*%

Hey it's made from FLORIDE! TEETH & FLORIDE a perfect match?

If you need to tighten up the plastic lens on an AixiZ module...

Really all you have to do is "Bugger" up the plastic threads a little...

A couple of little scribe lines across the threads (Not with the threads) or a light smash down of the peaks of the threads in a few select areas, will work perfectly..

Just stay away from the ends of the threads so you don't have any trouble starting them in the module...

OLD TRICK for loose threads!!!!

Just start light...if you start too heavy, the module will be difficult to adjust with two fingers.

I'll add some more...

The problem with the laser modules is thet they tend to get re-focussed a lot. That means tightening and loosening. If it's going on once and the focus is not changed, then the tape is OK. Otherwise....

Re: Anyone use Teflon tape to tighten Aixiz thread

I regret posting this "fix" for loose threads which I posted many months ago. It always has worked for me because with the aixiz module, barely a turn is needed to focus.

After reading these posts, I turned up a GB diode to 420 mA -- 280 mW --- TEC cooled and tried to cut a piece of white teflon tape at pinpoint focus. Nothing.... I then gave the piece a 10 second burn on a spot.... I didn't even get a hole. It's like tring to pop a white balloon ------

Sorry for the problems this suggestion has caused.

Re: Anyone use Teflon tape to tighten Aixiz thread

I suppose the other thread explains the dangers of using Teflon? ;D

So... Teflon tape = bad. The tape will melt from the heat of the diode and that will, in turn, kill the diode...

The tape doesn't melt - it shreds, and then boogers up the lense that is on the diode itself POSSIBLY...If you ar econstnatly adjusting the focus on this type of red - just ask Aixiz for another spring !

Re: Anyone use Teflon tape to tighten Aixiz thread

I only have the very small Aixiz modules. The lens is sort of glued in and can be removed easily. The problem is where the module screws together the threads have a lot of play in them . Even my Meredith has too much play in the threads, meaning I can wiggle the lens assembly back and forth. So of course when I change the focus, the direction of the beam changes.

I don't think there is any permanent solution. If they made the modules with finer threads then this would not be a problem.

Re: Anyone use Teflon tape to tighten Aixiz thread

Suggestion;
Use a drop of blue color Locktite threadsealer on a swab. Then swab all your female metal Axiz threads, just a tice !, then screw in the lens. That will take the slop out. Don't
over saturate the threads!!!!!

Material discription: a superglue .5 oz type plastic bottle of blue Locktite made by GE.
Red Locktite is the strongest, Don't use.
Don't get those stupid little squeeze tubes of locktite. I hate em.

Another great atribute to a never complete tool arsonal.

I ALWAYS BRING EVERYTHING TO A TROUBLESHOOT!

But, I like that idea of scribing the plastic threads so they bind. I'd try that first.
