Any recommendation around the use of 300mW+ laser

Do any experienced users have any recommendation or tips around the use of 300mW+ laser outside on the night?

I've been planning on buying a laser for over a year now. And now I've finally found one to buy. Now here's the thing... As several of you are already aware of, in several countries the restriction of lasers are: "Do not use a laser with 5mw+ outside"..... And with a 300mW+ you will be able to see the beam good or very good depending on the condition. I find laser's amazing, and all I really want to do is point it on the sky at night. So since you will probably be able to see where the beam is comming from on the ground when pointing up the sky, do anyone have any advice how to keep attraction away from cops when using it? Even though it's night, chances are huge you will attract cops, or even people when using it almost every night at e.g. 1-2-3 A.M. By the way, I live in Sweden, and I barely see any cops around here at all. Most of the time (90%) of the time, they are in the inner cities in Sweden. Still I don't want to encounter them and have the risk of them taking my laser away, or giving me expensive tickets. :P

Also if you've had any experiences with cops before, when using lasers, I would love to hear them in this thread. It might actually help me out, in case I meet one. :)

its ok to point in the sky as long as you pay attention to where your aiming it. if you see flashing lights from a plane or helicoptor DO NOT point it in the direction. wait until it moves from your sight before resuming the coherent fun.

EDIT: you should ask a local cop the laser laws in your area before you use any advice given...

Thanks for you'r reply.
Yes, I am fully aware of that. The problem is only, in Sweden you are not allowed to point a laser with more than 5mW+ towards the sky. If you want to do that, you need some kind of permission from the Government here... So it is still very illegal to do so  :'(

And what I am a bit scared of, is that they might try to locate the source of the beam, and that will lead to them probably finding me.

your local laws will dictate the rules. if its illegal and your worried about them finding you then stay indoors. thats the only advice i can give. laws are different in the US...

Ahh. But then I still can't use the laser, since they will probably see the beam coming from my house anyways. It's so irritating.

You worry too much. In the US they have the same laws about not pointing >5mw lasers into the sky and I do it all the time. Just be careful and try not to draw too much attention to yourself.

Coherent,
What mW do you'r laser have? Is the beam very visible on the night sky?
Yep, I guess I worry too much. Just don't want to get caught.  ::)

EDIT: thank's alot for you'r replys.

I point my RPL 300 out the window/off the balcony all the time. I usually wait until 2am or later and then have some fun.

I point my lasers in the sky all the time, the neighbours think it looks awesome.

Re: Any recommendation around the use of 300mW+ la

Hehe :)
Well I will do the same when I my laser arrives. I'll let you know how it goes :)

Hey, it's not illegal unless you get caught, so don't worry! JK

I think you'll be fine, just only point it at the sky and just turn it off if planes come around so they won't worry.
