Any 3v driver?

Hi guys, i've been reading a lot, almost ready to build a LM317 driver.
I've got some DVD-RW diodes.

But the LM317 driver requires 7.2 volt input, getting that from AA rechargables implies getting five of them toghether....

I was thinking, is there any 3v driver that can be built from store parts?

Thanks!

Surely its been mentioned before, but i'm thinking the easiest way to get 7.2 and not going for the rechargables standar batteries is to get a couple of 3.7 cellphone batteries. Only drawback its the custom conections u gotta do.
But they r rechargable as well, quick, and really space friendly.

You can use two li-ion batteries. If your thinking AAA size the Li-ion equivalent is 10440... I think.

For the price of a 14500 i get two BL 5C cellphone batteries.

Did a little research:
14500 3.6-7v 900mAh
vs
BL 5C 3.7v 850mAh (got the specs from nokia.com)

If u got a compatible charger, o even a cellphone to recharge em (thats my case) the BL 5C is the way to go.
