Hi guys,

I would like to attempt to build a small laser for burning designs into pieces of wood. I have been searching the forums for a beginners build and hoped to start small and work my way up. I have read about eye safety and i am very aware that it is important, i also have soldering and some circuit board repair experience. I was hoping somebody out there might be able to post a link or two, or send me a message, pointing me in the right direction. Thanks guys!

Peace,
Axel

I would suggest you also look in the Tutorials section of
the Forum. It will bring you up to speed on how to build
a Laser.

You could also buy a Kit that can be found in the B/S/T
sections of the Forum...

Ty again! I am looking into getting the diy survival laser s4 host! Before i do though, i would like to learn more about the drivers, so i can make sure i have the right one for what i want to build. I also need to know where to find good eye protection... Cuz i dont wanna be blind... Lol. Im sorry if i am asking to many questions that have been asked before, but i get lost in any forums way to easily. If anyone has any links that might answer my questions, i do appreciate your time and effort!

Peace,
Axel

Axel,

Please check out our drivers on this page:

Diode Drivers

You will need to determine the optical output power desired to choose the proper driver. The host you mentioned ships with a 1.25A driver but I can substitute one of our other drivers for $15 more. This assumes you are going to use a 445nm diode...1.25A will give you 1-1.3W optical output, 1.5A will give you 1.3-1.5W output and 1.8A will provide 1.6-2W output with a standard 3-element lens, depending on individual diode efficiency. Output with a G-1 or G-2 lens will be about 15% higher.

If you are building a 445nm laser I would recommend one of these goggles:

Eagle Pair® 190-540nm Standard Laser Safety Goggles

Eagle Pair® 190-540nm Slip Over Laser Safety Goggles

These have excellent ambient light transmission yet offer very good protection against up to 10W of 445nm laser light. The slip overs are great if you wear corrective lenses.

If you have any other questions I will be happy to answer them on the forum or via PM.

I was a bit curious about how and why the drivers worker.. Is there any place i can look to learn more?

Ty again!! You guys are incredible!! Ill admit im gonna have to break out my old notebooks and electronics books and take some time to refresh myself, but i hope you will all be happy to know i will be ordering 2 pairs of eye protection while i study... So that when im ready to build both my wife and i's eyes will be safe lol... Ty again!!
