Another new Texan

Hello LPF. I signed up because I have an interest in lasers. I am also a Star Trek fan. I was looking at some videos on YouTube showing how people have taken the laser diode out of play station 3s or Blu Ray drives and fitting them into phaser props. That is something I would like to do but I am not very familiar with the construction or working of lasers. So I am hoping I can get the help I need here. I see that there is a member in Midland, which is the closest to me. Maybe he or she can also give me some guidance and help.

Welcome to the forums TrekFan! You'll find many knowledgeable folks here. In subjects ranging from electronics, to optics, to the FDA regulations concerning lasers.

You'd do yourself a favor by using the white search bar at the bottom of the page rather that the menu search at the top to learn some basics, it gets much better hits. Then you'll have a better idea what you need help with and what questions to ask.

Also, I'm sure you'll be gettin' a PM from Hakzaw1 if you haven't already. If you click the flag in my sig it'll take you to a map of most of the Texas members.
