Another DIY Red

The flex drive seems a lil bit to small for my soldering skills lmao but the LM317 sounds great is it this one, and if it is would mine be exactly the same or would i need to mod it ?

Also it says 7.2V ideal ? could i use a 9V battery or would 6V do ? E.g two CR123A batterys ?
