Alternative batteries for laser pointer?






It says 3.7-4.2v, that means 1 rechargeable lithium ion battery. It will probably have reduced power or short battery life at 3v from 2 AAA batteries.
 
2 AAA = ~ 3 v with poor draw at higher amps

1 Lithium ion = 3.7 v with better draw at higher amps

It can take up to 4.2 v, and is rated 3.7 - 4.2 v, which the 3 v doesn't even reach.


So, it would work better with ONE lithium ion rechargeable cell.

Depending on how much room you have in the tube, etc, AAA is pretty slim, so, if the AAA are tight, you might need a 10440 sized rechargeable Lithium ion and a spacer.

(You'd need to make up for the missing AAA's length...)

Your device is rated to take 3.7 - 4.2 volts.

ONE AAA = 1.5 v, TWO = 3 v

ONE 10440 = 3.7 volts

That means that you only need ONE of the 3.7 v cells to supply the 3.7 - 4.2 v the laser needs.

So, you need ONE 10440 rechargeable lithium ion cell....at a time (Getting two means one can recharge while using the other, etc...)

As the 10440 is the size of an AAA, and, you're only using ONE, that means the tube will have spare room for another AAA...so, you need spacer or DUMMY CELL (10440 Dummy Cell) to take up the extra room, wile still connecting the cell to the cap and head electrically, etc.

PS -

DO NOT get any cells or chargers with "fire" in the name as a rule of thumb, especially on eBay, as almost all of them are fake.

Get something from a reputable dealer, so they might at least be the "fire" that the others are cloning, etc.


Plan A would be to simply use a HOST to drive that module with ONE cell, IE: The tube is meant for one cell....instead of using a host meant for two of the wrong cell, and doing gymnastics to make it work.

Can you get a different host, one that takes one cell (As that would be the correct one for that module)

I can't get another host now because I have just brought it so... I'll just have to do what you said get a 10440 and use a spacer with it.
I have used battery charges before and they have been terrible and doesn't even charge them, so I'm kinda worried if they are all like that. But I have not used on these types of batteries for lasers.
 
I also have another problem that is Australia doesn't allow batteries to be sent through airmail so I some how gotta find a 10440 and dummy battery :|.

The reason could be that they were fake.

The eBay versions tend to be old cells from other sources, wrapped to look like a new cell, but, inside could be anything at all. Obviously, they can't ALL be fakes, but, the number of fakes is actually so high that you can't tell what you're getting, as even the seller might not know what THEY bought, etc.

There are guys in AUS who get cells, maybe they can chime in with where they get them from?

The import restrictions are a royal PITA.

I will for shore avoid anything to do with fire, and maybe mine was a fake :/.
I'll try find some aussie and have a look in stores.
