Hi. Just wondering, but I've been hearing about people desoldering the laser driver from the 5mW AiXiZ diodes and using it to power their laser diodes. I'm just wondering how many mA they put out.
Thanks

Welcome to the Forum!

As far as I know, Aixiz is only the brand of the module, the housing of the actual diode, it contains no drivers or current regulators. For that you'll need a RckStar or FlexDrive.

Also, the Search button isyour friend, use it before asking :D

I'm afraid you misunderstood his question, Mr. Bird. What is the current output of the driver that comes with the 5mW Aixiz modules? I'd immagine it's around 5mA at 3V. So unless you're powering a different low power diode (635 or 780 perhaps?) it's useless.

What people are doing is taking the 5mW modules, removing the diode and driver, and installing a high-power violet or red diode with a lavadrive or rkcstr drive. I've done this myself on occasion. Sometimes the 5mW modules can be gotten cheaper than an empty aixiz module ...

I vaguely remember those to output 30mA...not sure though.

I tried to power a 635 5mw and for some reason they do not work
well the one I tried at least

They use optical feedback I believe, so your LD needs to have a photo-diode in the can. And its case positive.
