-- I tried to do this last year-- I hope anyone who feels this test in worthless please do me the courtesy of PMing me so we can talk.tsk
http://www.aixiz.com/store/product_info.php/cPath/57/products_id/446
My only testing was inside the 'module holder' mine came with-I added thin copper shim and paste to get good heat transfer-30 min- and i quit-
the module is the one i still use and so far no drop in power-- I prolly have >50 hours on it. lots of 10+ = min runs- its an ideal green for LUMIA btw.
as this is hardly what I would call a heatsink I want to do a death test with one inside a finned and large heatsink -
I can do a timelapse camera with LED clock, & LPM so a daily check will tell me what day it died and the video will show me the hour of day and the output for the time before death.
IF anyone else would rather do this PLEASE BE MY GUEST- happy to chip in the first $15 and send it to you when i have paid AixiZ - and they will ship a new one to you--
these AFAIk are AixiZ exclusive- they(LPF members) asked them to be made because many wanted green diode laser asap-
YEAH- buy raw diode. HS, driver, wire, module holder-shrink wrap, aixiz module and lens- materials- etc etc and save $$--- MAYBE
How much? depends on how cheap you get parts and how much you value your labor-
I had no actual say on what AixiZ ordered(other than the demand for any green diode lasers), of course- i dont work there--
Other more powerful ones would have been added to AixiZ but NOT when few are buying the one they have there now--
and in the year + that has passed some prices from others (No-LIke etc) have come down- no fault of AixiZ- and they pay to import them , pays USA taxes- IRS- Texas Taxes etc- they pay employees locally when needed --lots of overhead we dont know about.
when they run out I can tell you the next ones will be cheaper but til then-- I doubt they will be sold much cheaper-
BUT if you are new to building- lack all the tools etc needed PLUS the knowledge you could easily spend a LOT more than $85 and still not have a working laser-- you would be surprized how many emails fwded-- I get with....
' hello aixiz- I got three of your laser widgets- the first one died as soon as i powered it up!!
then I tried again and another one you sent was ALSO defective--'
maybe i should have not used a 9 volt battery???'
You can easily see how much more than $85 could be spent.
and maybe still no working green handheld
AND OF COURSE there is no warranty on DIY lasers-
- AixiZ is well known for the best customer service-
IF you want to help-- TY
even $1
I will add the first $15
so unpledged we have--- $70 so FAR
any feeling 'uneasy' working with me may be free to send thier help directly to AixiZ.

btw the current pic of this at aixiz.com (in the 532 section)did not show the module holder its supposed to come with-
- So any wanting to go ahead and get one- NOW--
Ask Chuck about the 'Stock' holder /heat sink- he may upgrade with one about the black ones the same BUT with also fins on the sides-- its still way to small mass-wise to do much help--
in any event I would not use those small holders unless I knew the run times would never be very long (like more than 10 min ) & I shimmed and used thermal paste.
afaik all the12x30 AixiZ module 'holders'are more than 12mm ID more like 13mm- they have always been like that-- Chuck knows we are not all fans of these-- and like them tighter-but I also understand that if you buy in lots of 5000 pcs and they dont quite come out the perfect ID -- whatchagonnado??
to be sure aixiZ will not order any new batches this loose.. til then 'lo sineto mucho'
-afaik NONE of our forum heat sink makers have ever made any this loose--so buy from those great members--
hak:beer:
beam shot was handheld- should have used a tripod--sry
round dot on wall is about 2mm and 3 M from laser to wall.
shipped in ESD bag- '515nm 25 mW' ask for black holder with
fins- otherwise its the same as in the pics..
