Sale on hold, no further orders please.

I got a bunch of capacitors for sale, this is one of the boxes.

These are Aerovox capacitors, made in UK and pulled from working equipment recently, in working condition and good shape.

These are 6" long and 3" wide, the bottom tail thread adds an extra 5/8" (so 6 5/8" total lenth). The screw terminals are 1/2" wide.

These will come with bolts for the terminals. I dont have the plastic nut that fits on the rear stud.

Im willing to ship worldwide, my asking price is 10$ US a capacitor plus shipping.

Cheers.

awesome hopefully you'll still have some when i have money...

Yeah, In the picture I only show 16 of those capacitors, but Ive got alot more in stock.

Re: /A LOT/ of can capacitors for sale (Aerovox, 4700uF @ 385V)

are these anything like the ultra capacitors?

Re: /A LOT/ of can capacitors for sale (Aerovox, 4700uF @ 385V)

No, these are electrolytic capacitors designed for use in motor drives, they are meant to be constantly charged and discharged at high currents and voltages. Your super capacitors (typically double wall carbon based rather then electrolytic) is mostly designed as almost a battery, with very high capacity, but no tollerance to repetative rapid discharge and charge and use as it would in a inverter or a motor drive. (note those are also in the several hundred farad zone, while these capacitors are 4700 microfarads. (0.0047 farad).

(one notable difference is the low ESR in these capacitors compared to the supercaps).

two different capacitors for two different applications.

all are 4700uF @ 385V, right?

Re: /A LOT/ of can capacitors for sale (Aerovox, 4700uF @ 385V)

Yeah, they are all identical.

Re: /A LOT/ of can capacitors for sale (Aerovox, 4700uF @ 385V)

Would these be sufficient for smoothing rectified 120V or 240V mains? How many might be able to do that?

Re: /A LOT/ of can capacitors for sale (Aerovox, 4700uF @ 385V)

Yeah, they would work for 120V and 240V, I forgot the formula, but one needs to calculate the RMS voltage and peak after rectification to be sure.. but the amount of these capacitors needed will depend on your load, what kind of power are you talking about? (also, half-wave rectified? or full-wave?)

For most typical household stuff, 1 is already enough to do the job (even for some of my higher powered SMPS lab supplies (with one drawing 12A on 120v)

Originally these were used for bus filteration (in a a bank) for IGBT bridge inverters to drive some monstrous motor.

Bump/Price reduced.

IIRC peak full wave rectified voltage for mains is (v . sqrt(2))
that would be 169,7v for 120v rectified
and 339,4v for 240v rectified
