I won an auction long ago for a 5 mW 405 laser handmade by 'Sunclan' I bid at these sevearl times and the lowest one about that time cost me >140$usd.
This was before we heard about the PHR- I sure would like to know more about this module I did hear back from SunClan years later when i asked about the power of this small laser- and was told they set the current (at 6 vdc) low on purpose to keep the power down to 5 mW and with some work i could get 100 mW from this module- the only englsih on the label is 5XD or SXD- the rest looks like chinese-- I hope a member an translate for me- the driver looks homemade and a tad crude IMO -- it is partially embedded (looks like JBWeld to me)and i see no pot to adjust .
So I may need to 86 that driver and go with a newer one--
The lens had some whiteish glue on the treads which came off easily with a exacto knife tip .. so I will be able to foucs the stock lens once i get it running closer to 100 mW..
the rest is loose but I am not wanting to unscrew it as that may break some wires inside
While you translate I will try to find the date I bought this laser-afaik Sunclan was the only or one of very few selling 405 nm lasers.. For sure before many were getting PHR sleds-
Oldest tutorial on the harvest of this(that I could find) , then brand new wavelength was at Sam's and done by Leslie Wright from Scotland ( an Xray tech)
That is definitely Chinese. Probably more
symbols than any other written language
It took hours just to find the right
ideographs. It was fun, though.
功率 - Power Rate
The meaning of the large characters in the
center is less clear. It has something to
do with tearing and ruin/damage/destroying
and having no effect. Maybe a Chinese
colleague will enlighten us.
撕毁无效
编号 - Serial Number
功率 - Power Output
撕毁无效 - If torn, all warranties are off
编号 - Serial Number
What I surmise from this informations is that there is a seam under the label. In order to get to the diode, you need to open the module. Doing this will in some way tear the paper label. (thats why its there, its to prevent tampering.) There is precious little other information. I suggest that if you want to get the diode to try unscrewing very gently. If it feels like you are twisting some wires then stop. I know that sometimes the wires will break with the smallest of forces. I am sorry I cannot give you more information, there just is not enough text. That is unless there are some other text somewhere else. If you find any post a pic.
The brass center part is loose with the Al heat sink but I have not turned it as the driver is not turning too. It stops turning freely at 1/4 rotation-don't want to force.
The front Al part does nothing- just made to slip into this tiny LED flashlight.
We have others here that own Sunclan lasers- a mom n pop biz that was sold to another ~4 years ago. I got an awesome deal on a SC Magenta lab laser $49.
I want to 86 the crude looking no pot driver and go with something that gets me 100mW- bigger HS of course- it came with an odd 6vdc battery -very small-
I may see if DTR will take a look OR maybe I will drill it out with a fricken drill press
jk jk
about the 'warranty' never gave that a thought-I got in iirc in 2006 -time long= long time.
the
lens I can remove if wanted- its about 1/2 inch away from the LD. there were teensy bits of glue there to keep the lens were they liked- looks like glass one element lens nut also brass.
I peeled the lablel and got a fortune cookie message-- jk jk
no need to remove-
yeah I saw blank place next to the TYPO MW- (mW is correct or W)
would tighter pics of the driver be of help with this-
I would like to run it with a single 18650==I cant say whether this is a buck- boost o linier.
I will unscrew the lens w/ hemos-and see what I see..
I wouldn't be surprised if it was a wafer.
What would be helpful would be to pick off
some of that black junk so we can get a
better look at most if not all the
components. Otherwise I have no idea of
the polarity. A strong light behind the
board would also help bring out the traces.
