A long title that offers no info about this post

Has anyone ever owned a Jasper Curve. It is advertised to be exactly 4.99mW (most powerful IIIa). It says it has a microprocessor to automatically tune itself to that value. I'm thinking the driver must employ the photo-diode huh? Check it out, it's pretty nice. :D

Looks......... um......... like a ......
Nevermind

Actually It seems neat, may be a cool driver to try to hack too.
May order a keychain one too. Thanks

Re:  A long title that offers no info about t

I don't know. It could be a scam. If all that stuff it says is true, it's a nice laser. But for 80 bucks plus shipping, that's expensive. My radioshack green (50$) is 5mW, it works great, has an IR filter, and people will still say it's too expensive. The button looks poor quality and the grip looks sort of "odd". And aren't you allowed a 5mW in the U.S., just not anything over it?

Re:  A long title that offers no info about t

I wouldnt buy from any place they compares a 5mw laser to a light saber. That just pisses me off.

But doesnt that look like a....
Nevermind, jonrobertd pointed that out
;)

Re:  A long title that offers no info about t

i bought a jasper apc so they aren't a scam

Does the driver like change the mA going to the diode if it starts to get to an unsafe temperature?

They usualy adjust by light output of the diode itself.

:-? That looks more like a personal massager than a laser ;D

Jasper Laser's are not a scam. They are excellent quality. Compared to DX or Radio Shack greens they are kinda pricey but I think they are sweet! :D

Of course they are gonna say it's like a light saber! It's a marketing gimmick that appeals to those who don't know much about the relationship between mW and visible brightness.

I probably wont buy one I was just wondering if anyone knew about the inner workings of these.

Well, I think it's just snobism. ::) Even if I was some rich guy doing presentations all day , and would want the best presentation pointer out there and cost would not be a problem, I would still rather choose something that looks less like a female sex toy ;D

I've heard these are great pointers - possibly some of the best on the market.

On the other hand... computerized laser beam? srsly?

Many of the cheapo DX lasers have photosensors in them. Two of my now dead DX greenies had them, both were made by NewWish.

I'd be curious to see if the Jasper laser contains a plain-old NewWish module......

Was the photo-diode hooked up on the circuit? I wonder if there is a DIY driver schematic floating out there that employs the Photo-diode.

Enough with the jokes about how it looks. ha ha (sarcastic laugh).

Here's a question. Was the design made before it was decided it was going to be a laser? :D

Also, are you completly sure it always stays at 4.99 mW? That seems rather specific. Does it have an IR filter or an APC?
