A Florida Man joins Laserpointerforums.com. Hi all. I'm Bob, and yes, I'm a native Floridian. I'm a Senior Systems Engineer (network guy) and have been in IT since 1989. I started in Computer Repair and moved into Networking over the years. Currently, I'm the sole 3rd shift person at the company I work for, so that means I'm up all night during the work week. I had always been into flashlights, but I hadn't bought anything new in over a decade, so the perfect hobby presented itself. High power flashlights. I've collected some, and built some and have very good soldering and assembly skills.
I guess the next progression of my hobby is lasers. I already have a few small laser pointers and a couple of weapon mounted lasers, so I'm very familiar with safe and proper use. Ever since I saw Wicked Lasers come out with the Arctic series, I've had that urge in the back of my head that I wanted a blue burning laser, but could never justify the cost of one. Now that I can afford to get into the hobby, I've been doing more reading, especially about the safety concerning these high power lasers. I don't have any safety goggles yet, but I will get the proper ones before I either order or build anything that requires them.
I found this forum mentioned over on BLF a couple of months ago, and have been wrapping my head around the differences between high power flashlights and lasers. From what I've seen so far, there is a wealth of knowledge here and I'm trying to soak up what I can. I'm a big reader and usually only post questions when I hit a dead end, so hopefully that serves me well here.
So, just wanted to say hi, and I hope I don't drive anyone nuts once I start building something.
Thanks, Bob.
