I had the same issue with mine, i think you can use a q-tip dipped in 90% or above alchohol put it on there and let it drie, dont try this until somone else says its okay tho, but i think i saw somewhere that it might work, my ld looked the same but it wouldnt get cleaned no matter what so i cut off the can with a dremel tool and it fixed it right up ;D Then my driver broke it 2min later cause ihad mixed up 2 wires on it :'(
Yea I had the same problem. I used a damp then a dry q-tip, took me forever though and it is still not perfect like it used to be. I have been told that a LensPen works wonders on them.
You probably would need to wipe it, just dont go in circles go one direction so the dust doesnt get back on it, since its in a can (no pun intented ;D) it shoulndt hurt it at all.
And if that doesnt work you can always cut off the can, just be careful and check often, its not as hard as it seems since everything important is in the middle of it and the wires dont connect to the case but the pins which are sorta near the middle
I just realized something, I have an old dvd player lens cleaning disc. It has really fine bristles on it. Is it okay to use that instead?
I'm sure it would work. It is meant to be used on the dvd laser optics right?.
by the way, I used this disc before and it fixed every dirty dvd player lens I tried it on.
I know they aren't designed for the LD window, but it is designed to clean a very delicate part of a dvd player.
By the way I tried it and it got the dust particles, but not the grease. I used a precision screwdriver with my microfiber cloth to get the stuff off the window. I can't believe it worked! no chemicals at all. A little interference here and there, but its better.
those cd/dvd cleaning disks are quite nasty, would rather brush off the coating of the (final focussing) lens. or even scratch it, since its acrylic often. didnt try it yet, but thats what i heard. obviously it makes a difference if its a 2x speed audio player or a 52x speed pc drive..
screwdriver? yep, sometimes the easy and obvious solution is the right one!
well, of course that doesnt count if you have a lasercutter and pizza..
