908nm laser - how can I see it?

This looks a lit bit shaky.

Do you have a measurement setup or principal?

To see 980 or 908 you'll nee a night vision camera and maybe some NIR filters, or a modified photo camera (smth for an infrared photography)

They could use a "simple" one laser system to avoid any kind of troubles created by two lasers. :thinking:
 
No, I want you to prove your claims of those tickets even being issued.

You've just stated how all of these erroneous tickets are issued as fact, but have provided no real proof. You'd think word of such a ridiculous ticket would make it to a reliable source... :thinking:

Well, first of all, I am also one of the people that got a ticket like this.

for going 67mph when i was actually going 57mph, or 10mph less .
My car was on cruise control at 57mph, my GPS showed 57mph, and a mobile speed trailer with radar, showed 57mph, but only 30yards after the mobile speed trailer I was nailed with a photo for going 67mph.

The system that got my is a little different so I won't be saying too much about, but I will let you know that I did win my case in court. But it also is supposed to be top of the line, 100% accurate system, well it turned out that it isn't. I was able to prove it more or less, and even the manufacturer of the system admitted to the design error. They issued a new software that addressed that issue, but didn't eliminate the problem.

This ticket got me interested in photo ticket in Maryland. You don't want to know of all the problems, issues and things I have since found out.

Anyway, back to the Optotraffic system:

you would really need to read up on this company and their issues from the start to understand the issues.

At first they were saying that the photos are proof that one was speeding. When people were able to prove in court that this was not correct, and judge threw some of these tickets out, they came back and said, NO you can't use this photo as evidence of speeding, it only show that you were there.

But the statement that a police office signs on these citations, say , that these photos are evidence of speeding........
This company changes their statements every time someone disproves their statements.

I am not sure why you are fighting this issue so much.........
 
Yea you have already been told multiple times how to see the dots anyways...

I'm sure between you and the many smart people you have working with you, one of you has to have a smartphone with a good camera. Go out there at night and point it at the road, if there are lasers you will see them.

You can even test if your camera will see ir by pointing a remote at it and pressing a button. If you see a pink flash on the camera then it will see a 980 laser. I really doubt the laser is 908, I dont think such a laser exists.
 
Is the pole fixed?

If the pole can move, especially if it's the portable kind pictured above, calibrating the distance between the beams would be difficult. Any deflection of the pole would move the beams in relation to each other. That could be a great deal depending on the angle of the laser in relation to the road (think a2+b2=c2)

If your some guy trying to beat a ticket some simple algebra would likely get the ticket tossed, assuming the thing works as you think it does.

I don't think it works as you think it does though. Something like that probably uses LIDAR. Do you have any links that explain the inner workings of this thing?

All the systems i'm familiar with only give out single photographs of the vehicles when the system is tripped. I'm curious to know how you can calculate speed with only one reference? You need at least two, with a known accurate elapsed time between them, to be able to compare distance traveled over time and thus calculate speed.

Frankly I doubt these even use lasers. The camera systems around here are all either road sensor, or video based, with speed calculated based on the changes in the images.

I am arguing this because you have seized this issue and decided that there is this massive nonsensical design flaw, yet you obviously have no credentials in the field and have no idea how the system actually works.

I think you need more than just seeing these "dots," chief.

Not sure if this helps, but you could somehow get a green laser up there and turn it on and off from the ground by a remote. Then you could see the green laser and estimate where the 808nm laser is pointing
 
I think it's fine that mister tomekg wants to investigate. There's no harm in that. Finding the laser pattern isn't a bad place to start.

excuse me, but I actually know more about how this systems works, then you do. I have researched this and another system for the last 1 year now, spending hundreds of hours getting their technical manuals etc.

I actual have a document from the Manuf. of Poliscan Laser unit that got my going 67mph, which clearly shows that I was no guilty and I was able to use their own document to prove this in court. I was able to get this document from the Maryland State Highway Administration via the Maryland Public Information Act, which at first they didn't want to give me claiming, "Industrial trade secrets" This documents showed exactly when there is a problem and when the photos are not valid and MUST be discarded. They knew that I will be able to use this information in court and didn't want to produce it at first. I will be more than happy to email you this document, the "operators manual" to be exact. Vitronics the manufac. of this Poliscan unit admitted the design error. Please tell me that I don't know how these two systems work when I have already spend hundreds of hours learning it. I have hundreds of emails between myself and Maryland State Highway Administration, and have many emails between government officials telling each other that there are problems with these units. Ever other week emails were telling government works to ignore certain number of tickets because of issues What exactly have you done in ref. to these devices? and what exactly do you know about them. I never said that knowing where the two dots are will prove that this system doesn't work, did I?

I came to these forums to get some information on lasers not to argue how these lasers work to calculate speed.

We have official government officials (state of maryland) coming out every few months and on records admitting that 100's of citation have been issued in error for what ever reason. But you seem to think that because I want to know where these dots I must be wrong and there is no issue and these units are a 100% accurate.

I guess you are that kind of person that when someone spits in your face, you will call it rain.

I guess you may have some knowledge about lasers, but I guess you lack the understanding and knowledge of commons sense. We have already proven in court to the judges satisfaction that these units make mistakes, many many times. But you seem to think otherwise.. that is your rights. Just don't be surprise to get a letter in the mail one day that you were speeding when in fact you were not.

Thanks to all for some info about laser visibility. I am not going to make any more comments in ref. to these units because we seem to have too many people here thinking that government wouldn't do anything to harm us or take our money. continue to be ignorant about these facts.

When Maryland laws finally allowed for these speed cameras to be used they allowed it only in School Zones. Guess what, over night most of the location of these cameras were converted to school zones. And guess what Maryland law specifically states when these road can actually be school zones, and guess what, many local government ignored that and placed make these areas, school zone anyway, then they placed these faulty cameras.
Yes these units work, yes they can be accurate, and YES they do make mistakes. Too many mistakes.
