new here, would love some helpful advice on a choice of battery to power a 900mW 405nm BDR-209 Blu-Ray Copper Laser Module W/Boost Driver & G-2 Glass Lens

Specs
Wavelength 405nm +/- 5nm
Input Voltage 3V-5.5V
Driver Output Current 600mA(default)
Driver Current Draw 1100mA +/- 0.5A
Power Output 900mW-1000mW
Driver Type Constant Current

What would one recommend to power this diode from a battery source.

Would a Single Panasonic 18650 3400 mAH do the job ?

What are my choices of batteries ?

My personal preference of battery is the Sanyo NCR18650GA 3500mAh, but a panasonic should work just fine!

No. 7.4V will kill a boost driver - you should only use one Li-ion, or you can use multiple in parallel. But series will not work.
 
The Panasonic will work fine. I'm assuming your host is an 18650 sized unit since you mentioned the Panasonic 18650 3400mA battery.
I've just completed a BDR 209 build, and am using a single AW 16340 cell, and it works fine. Obviousely overall run times will be greatly reduced with the smaller cell, but your choice of battery is pretty much determined by host size.
Your duty cycle is going to be dependent on your heatsinking.
 
I have not found a host for it has of yet, been playing around with different sizes, seeing how small i could make it.

All the guys above are correct a Boost drive get 1 battery no more than that..

A single 18650 or other Li-ion battery would be perfect.

I've recently purchased two of those same diode setups from DTR (and about to purchase a third diode but without the driver board and extras) and I power one with a single 18650 Panasonic battery I pulled from a laptop battery pack (excellent source of 18650's by the way as long as the battery pack isn't damaged or 'dead').
