808 and 1064nm blocking filters -- good deal?

I see that Snoctony offers a 10 lot of IR filters on ebay...item number 130269005361. Does anybody more well versed in optics think this is a decent deal for the money? Or can they be had much cheaper from a U.S. supplier?

I will definitely need more than one in the near future, and I already need one on one of my lasers now.

$65.00 for all of them isn't a bad deal, but who would use all of those IR filters?

I bought some multi wavelength blocking filters for 808nm and 1064nm...
from this eBayer that was referred to me by a member here on LPF..

By the looks of the transmission plot, it also blocks 532 green and 473 blue completely. Perhaps its useable in a 671 red dpss, but otherwise i dont see any application?

That Filter looks much better... but I don't know if it blocks 1064nm by the chart.

Thanks for pointing that out... the filter i suggested is useless to block the 532nm's IR since it also blocks
the 532nm...
I was so interested in the 808nm and 1064 end if the chart... that I missed the 532nm blocking curve... :'(

I might grab a couple of those 1/2" dia filters to power test 532nm Lasers to see if IR filters are installed
or not... Thanks for the heads up..  [smiley=thumbup.gif]

Well, we can't be totally sure about 1064, but i reckon it blocks that as well, otherwise they would probably have made the chart bigger.

With most green lasers 1064 is less of a concern anyway, since 532 is obtained with intracavity doubling, and transmission of more than a percent of 1064 from either end of the set would cause the solid state laser to stop functioning.

Well the picture on Snoctony's auction shows 100 IR filters, however, it says this auction is only for 10 filters.  I already have one 643nm module (my Aixis 15mw) in need of IR filtering, plus a 50mw on the way from Snoctony, which probably will need it as well.  those filters would be useful for anyone wanting to make a cheap pointer a bit safer.  He claims only 5% loss at 532 for these filters.

*edit* I meant to say 532nm on my AixiZ 15mw, not "643"...don't know where I got that, must have been in a hurry.
 
diode lasers such as your Aixiz 643?nm module do not requite IR filters. Unless its a green and you made an error.

only DPSS (mainly 532nm, 473nm, 593nm and 671nm, there are others however they are not available to us mortals) lasers require IR filters, as they use an IR pump diode and as a result produce some IR spillage.

Diode lasers (red and BR, in our world) do not produce any IR.

Yes, I checked and they are $0.99! I am definately ordering a few of those for my upcoming projects. Thanks! That's a great price and I'm sure the shipping would be faster than Snoctony.

That's really cheap!

But mind you, its not a good filter: blocks only 85% of IR, and by the looks of it, gives a fair loss in the visibly frequencies as well.
 
Snoctony it is then, or one of the other vendors of this same bg38 material. I'd rather pay more and know I have the best quality.

The issue for me is that I have one 532nm labby and two others on the way now which will not be IR filtered. I would like to add them on for extra protection. I will be using safety goggles when needed however, nevertheless, I want the filters too.
