After sitting down with a buddy and discussing lasers he thought up an idea using two diodes, one red, the other IR. I remembered seeing a single diode on here a while ago while browsing through that had both those in one package. Well his eyes lit up with glory as he asked if I could build him one. Really unsure of how much work it would be I said sure, Ill give it a try!
Well here it is, and to my amazement, it works!
Here's the smallest switch I could find that had an On-Off-On set up. That way It can be off or provide power to the 2 separate drivers inside.
Speaking of drivers, I don't have any pictures of them but they were harvested from 2 green pens running at 118mA each. Soldered the switch together so they are always on when given power.
Small square holes are really freaking hard to cut and make look clean but this wasn't too too horrible.
Pill and switch wired up.
Gluing it all in place. Had to get creative. A micrometer works pretty well as a mini vice.
Bottom side.
Not in this picture is my negative lead. It was soldered to the outside of the pill to pull Neg from the spring cap at the base.
Had Jayrob make me a heatsink with an extended bezel area to give me a few mm of extra space inside. Which I desperately needed.
Ahh finally the completed laser! I know I missed alot of pictures but this has been a couple week project and I forget to snap photos when I get in a groove.
650 is putting out about 75mW
780 on the other hand is putting out 132mW
Main reason for this build is a custom weapon sight for my buddies AR. On this he has a night vision scope. Now I don't have the weapon with me but I do have NVGs.

Should get the job done! Was able to fit everything in the head of this laser so the battery tube can unscrew like a normal Maglite.
