Hi Guys:

Here is a demo of 635nm red versus 640nm red in a RGB projector.

I had a Laserwave 400mw 635nm laser in my RGB. Notice the fatness of the red beam, and the red splash projecting up from the top mirror because the red beam was larger than the scanner mirrors.

Now look at this video with no red splash coming off the Y mirror and a more narrow red beam using a Laserwave 400mw 640nm labby.

Nothing else was changed in the RGB other than the red laser. To me 635 red is BB (bright and beautiful) for beams  but NSG (not so great) for graphics :( I got red spill in graphics on either side of any line calling for red.

Yes, I am too anal.

That's stunning John! I think Marc (GottaLuvLasers) posted some demo pics of the new 640 series from Laser-wave over on PL. I was amazed with the beam specs, simply amazing. I know what I'll be putting in my projector!

I feel your pain.. I have a 300mW 650nm CNI in my RGB, and I love the deep red color, but the beam is so big that I lose about 1/3 of its power from the spill since the beam is larger than the mirrors. I'm surprised that two multimode diode based lasers from the same company would have such different beam specs. I wouldn't think there would be much (if any) noticeable difference in hues over a 5nm difference in wavelength.. Which was the costlier unit?

Roger that. I got the 640 from Marc :takeit:

Hi EF:

They use very different diodes. The new 640nm one is more expensive.

Marc sells them here.

^very nice.. I'll have to check one of those out one day. They look awesome, but they're a tad costly for a red unit. I'm sure it's worth it for the beam quality.
