I received my DL-6353TL laser diodes today (ebay)..
They are rated for 7 mW of 635 nM output with a 40 mA max current.
After mounting one in an Aixiz module, I proceded to light it up with a current range of 20 to 60 mA. It appears that current over 45 ma (11.5 mW) is at the knee of the curve but I did achieve 14.9 MW at 60 mA. (No, I didn't burn it out --- yet ;D)
Diode voltage is 2.27 volts at 45 mA. The beam looks red until you put a 660 nM beside it, Then it looks like a HeNe beam.
The picture here shows a 660 - left and the 635 - right running at 4 mW. It's hard to see the difference through the camera.
NO - - It won't burn, light or cut stuff -- Don't ask.

If I didn't know I would have picked the one on the right.. ;D Like you said the difference is there but barely noticeable.

Your eye can see the difference side by side.  Oh, those two dark spots are burn spots on the target from previous experiments !

Another picture -- 660 --- 635 --- HeNe (the poor old HeNe only outputs .63 mW :( )

Actually I do see a good difference between them. The 635 is orange-y-er while the 650 is way more cranberryer :D

to bad the high powered 635, like ones as powerful as dvd burners are multi-mode, and if there were some single one im sure youd have to dig in your lifesavings to get it.

...lzer... ;D ;D ;D

I built a 635 diode into a small flashlight (1 aa Cell) today. The flashlight is an
unmarked clone from DX. OK quality and I should have used it for a 405 because the boost puts out 5.6 volts !!
Anyhoo, It puts 42 mA to the diode now and I read peak 12.8 mW of 635 nM.
The beam in dark is slightly visable.
The only problem I had is that the diode is case + :( I had to isolate the module but 2.28 volts at 44 mA ain't much.

Could we get more info about that flashlight host and boost circuit please ?:) building a bluray soon.

Darn -- It's a basic, unmarked, painted, cheap copy of an Ultrafire. I got it last summer and wasn't impressed with it so I made it into a 635 !! DX may not even have it anymore. I'll look.

Mike

Go to DX and look under Flashlights, other. The SKU 2070 and 5383 are similar to mine and under $5 !! I don't know about the driver.

Mike

Okay, do you think that could be a host for a bluray without any or minor modifications to the booster circuit ?

it sounds like it would be perfect since that is right around the voltage and ma it takes, the voltage might just be a little to high but a smalll resistor should fix that, and a cap couldnt hurt.

...lazer... ;D ;D ;D

Let's keep it simple like my Blu :D I measured the output of the boost at about 40 mA. I had the volts !! I added resistors (and the needed cap) to drive the diode. If the boost holds steady output -- you have a CV driver with a resistor limiting the mA. KISS !!!!

Mike

ive i ever build a blu-ray i got to try that, and those flaslights are sooo cheap.

...lazer.. ;D ;D ;D
