It doesn't have to be darkly colored. The problem with that is it melts whatever contains the liquid, and it gets everywhere. Unless you can find me a cheap beaker made from ZnSe, this isn't feasible. How about ice cutting as a substitute?

What about a glass? It can't melt that too?!?! :D ;D
But if it does, boil from above the glass? You might get some reflection, but some would surely boil? You could stick a thermometer in too!
