i bought a 5mw green laser pointer from eBay, it worked fine for the first couple of months but now the batteries become very hot when i try to use it, i tried all kinds of batteries and it's the same ... did anyone else face the same problem? is it fixable?

Thanks,

The output is still ok? batteries getting hot can only mean you got a short circuit somewhere, but i can't see how the laser could still work then.

i recomend you go dealextreme and get a new laser, its 10$

the output is still working but the batteries deplete after using it for a very short time ...

H is right in that there is almost certainly a partial short somewhere, it is likely that a component on the driver board is failing. You need a multimeter and a 1ohm resistor to find out.

Take off the back end of the laser put the resistor between the end of the battery and the case, measure the voltage drop in mv, it should not be more than 300mv..... With a 1ohm resistor 1mv = 1ma.
