5mw from Cd rom?

Yes i know that you need 20x cd burners to get high bower buring lasers, but if i got a cd rom will i be able to get a 5mw laser out of it? And a 5mw IR laser? Just wondering...

Well, you won't be getting both.

CDs use 780nm IR and DVDs use ~650nm red.

If you want to play around with low power reds just grab a dozen diodes online...for the price they are hardly worth removing from a used cd player.

At modwerx you can get 635nm diodes which are more desired by most for only $4

Ok, i was just curious, i have currently ordered a few 5mw laser to muck around with from odicforce.

Thanks, i was just curious, if found an old dvd player i could just extract the diode if i was bored

yes even ps3 is still just a bluray reader. You wont get much power unless you have a drive designed to burn disks

PS1 is low-power IR... in the range of 5mW. Sorry, sucks i know.

IR/RED diodes from the PHR-803T sleds ( multi-pack ) [af/STK] - $6.49 : StoneTek Electronics, Your Laser Parts Store for cheap red & IR diodes. Practice soldering on those before soldering a diode you care about.

are those true 635nm? Normally red diodes are about 660nm

My link? No. They're ~660 (the exact WL varies, but with this what does it matter?) and IR. Mainly just to practice soldering.

The ones from Modwerx are 635. Still red, but more orange and more visible.
