520nm 501b Scifi laser 200+ mw

I bet it's 9mm diode. The divergence is so bad it can't be anything else. PLP520-B1 has divergence like single mode.

I'm not too familiar with other 9mm 520s besides the ndg700 and ndg7575, which one are you thinking? It also could be a crap lens causing terrible divergence.

Ok I carefully took the lens off, there was a spring under it going down into the threaded area. is that normal?

Yes that's normal, without the spring there would be alot of play in the lens, some like springs and some use Teflon tape for a more snug fit. To be safe, some people will put in their lenses/springs with the lasers business end facing the ground to help keep contaminates off the diodes window

So it looks like you have a 5.6mm diode. Ill have to do a little more research on what other 520 diodes come in a 5.6 can. But I do know of the PLP520B1 and B2 and that would be promising.

Is it me or doe's it look like it might have some specs or dust in the cavity?
Also Eitan sure favor's Chinese based modules.

Well Alex2893 whom I bought this laser from said it is a "520nm 501b"

Yeah it doesnt look real clean does it? But 1) i am at work and 2) I don't have anything to clean it with and 3) It works, and I'd be rather afraiad Id break it trying to clean

Does look a little dirty, is that a brass module, at first I thought maybe just a weird angle but doesn't look copper.

Edit: I agree JHop, sometimes it's better to just leave things alone!

Yup its best you just leave it alone. Oh for sure its a SciFi 520b in a 501B host.
The curiousity was in what it had for a diode and if it was robust enough to handle the output comfy, which looks like it's a 5.6mm unit and should be fine.
Your happy with it and thats what counts, looks like a good deal:)

Yep, its a nice little burner(At least of black trash bags) :P and it has a very nice visible beam. im geussing its 120mw buyt with the g2 lens that bumps it up a little? or maybe its more than 120mw i dunno. The seller claimed it was "200mw+" I am thinking about buying the $75 LPM in the BST section, and testing it and my other lasers out.

The '200mw' number is just what the laser was sold as though. Unfortunately alot of scifis lasers were underspec from what they were advertised as.

Getting a Hyperion would be great, it is an awesome tool to have, especially for these very reasons!
