500mw laser?!

i recent got this Green Laser Kaleidoscope in Lifestyle Party Lighting Laser
for a party of mine, and the label says its a 500mw laser.
is this true? and can the diode be used for a DIY project?

its probably 5 mw or 50 mw by the looks of it ...

I wanted to be optimistic it says it on the label. You can't see it in the picture

500mW of 532nm would be unbelievably bright and would cost hundreds of dollar minimum

not really. for $60 you could buy an ebay green pointer and then shine it through some rotating diffraction gratings to get the same effect and still have $50 dollars left. If you want to see a cool light show check out some of the RGB laser show projectors on this site and photonlexicon. They make that projector look like the overpriced paper weight/door stop that it really is.
