Probably, but the military doesn't have much need for visible light. Electronics and Entertainment are probably our best new sources of science.

I don't think the military cares if it needs it or not... XD with that much tax money you might as well invest in lasers. But I agree the most likely source is laser projectors and laser TVs. Mostly the projectors because they need a BRIGHT, small RGB laser source.
