488nm Build! Finally!

It’s finally finished. If you look at my last post, you’ll see that I had an issue completing my circuit, which turned out to be a dummy battery that wasn’t making contact with the case. After removing some of the wrap, it was good to go.

The Sharp 488nm diode, 12mm module and G8 lens are from DTR. Amazing quality as was my last purchase from them.

The driver is a boost from Giannis_TDM. Couldn’t believe how fast it came from Greece. This is the first driver I’ve soldered on myself (this is only my second build) and even with a newb like me, the driver performs wonderfully.

My rigged-up battery for a power source to test the current. Giannis set the current before sending and showed me it was spot on. I just wanted to try this because I’ve never done it.

Driver soldered to the diode. Please excuse my soldering skills 😜 I forgot to take a photo of the wire connecting the case pin to the driver’s negative.

First light with the rigged-up power source.

The lead from the driver’s positive to the switch board. To find the correct pad, I just followed someone’s advice on here and checked for continuity with the switch pressed.

All put together in a Laser66 host. Got a couple from Laser66 and a couple from Rich. Love these things!

And some beams! The shot with three is a Sanwu Pocket 445nm 500mW, my 445nm 3W (first build) and the pen. The greener indoor shot was color corrected to try to show the true color. This 488nm is definitely creeping toward the turquoise side.

Hi,

Many of those 488 nm diodes tend to be above 490 nm. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if yours is too. If this is one of the initial 488 nm diodes DTR got all of those tended to be above 490 nm. If you manage to get one at or below 488 nm these look far more blue. Congratulations on your new build. ;)

Thanks Paul. I wish I could capture the accurate color on camera. It’s definitely not as blue as it looks in the photos. I absolutely love the color.
