EDIT: Drlava confirmed that the continuity (less than 1ohm resistance) between diode - and batt - is normal. Never hurts to be carefull.

Driver: Microboost @ 950mA
Diode: 445nm A140
Battery: 14500

Result:

Aixiz Acrylic lens melted IMMEDIATELY. I noticed right away due to change in output so no damage done. Cleaned lens with q-tip/alcohol, output is clean.
Jayrob has shipped my 445 lens so I will wait for that.

Surrounded the driver with tape after (not in pic) to prevent shorts with heatsink. Extra layer of tape inside heatsink.

This is temporary. Cut a bottlecap into a circle. Poked the wire through and soldered it with aluminum foil (like 8 layers folded).

I am pretty sure that is normal. Try looking at the board and see if there is a trace between them. I am pretty sure they are not supposed to be dc/dc isolated power supples.
hook up a test load and see if its ok

ive never had one of these drivers
so is it brand new? if so hook your test load up and see if it works

I don't want to kill the driver though..

The manual says and I'll quote:

"Unlike many other drivers, the battery negative (-) connection and the diode - (cathode) connections are NOT continuous. As such, diode + and - must be isolated from the laser casing."

In my case, If I connect the case pin to the battery - (as I planned to), the 2 WONT be isolated..

I think either I messed up (I don't see how though, no visible shorts)

Or the driver is defective and I should ask for a replacement...

Driver is fine with testload.

I'll try the diode next.

It seems the continuity test meant nothing.

Laser works fine.

I got the reply from Drlava.

What I expected was a fault is normal.

According to him, there is less than 1 ohm of resistance between battery - and diode -.

Never hurts to be careful though.
