40W Co2 laser gun burning wood






Nice, I have thought of making use of pvc myself.

Do you have a longer range lens?

I like your targeting laser switch on the rear handle and your firing switch on the front.

C02 makes a nice round beam, it's very workable, with the right lenses you could get some burning distance and at 10um the diffuse reflection is much more eye safe, I have many times thought of making one portable, do you have a battery pack?

If you went battery pack to inverter to transformer that would be wasteful, I would want to build my own driver circuit.

How high is the trigger voltage and what is the run voltage and current, or are you just using the stock power supply and house power?

Looks like he is using a flyback with a "ZVS" driver
 
I didn't even look at it that hard, lol I saw the ps box top right.

Forgive my ignorance but the C02 tube needs CD not AC right?
35000 volts DC but current has to be limited, right?

HV dishchage co2 lasers use HV DC , AC dose work , but DC is better , Voltage depends on tube length , current is limited to tubes operating specs , my 15W tube runs at 15mA .

Yea I see the battery pack up front and the coil in back followed by the zvs and there is one more circuit ahead of the zvs, the coolant pump would be good for shorter duty cycles.

Is there a cooling fin for fluid circulation in back?

How do you limit the current and will it change with temp?

How sensitive are the elements in those tubes?

Actually that looks like a fan over finned fluid cooler behind the batteries, I suppose just a resistor could work to limit running current, but the value will change once it starts, still that's not hard to work out, I didn't know these tubes could use AC or DC, and I thought they needed higher starting power.

i use a ZVS circuit to drive the hv flyback transformer and connecting the tube.
the battery is 24V 3000mah Li-battery,the current when running is about 7 amps.
and one dc-dc circuit for 26.2V output driving the ZVS circuit.
and one dc-dc circuit for 10V output driving the water pump motor
and on dc-dc circuit for 3V output driving the two 5mw 532nm laser pointer

this gun total cost me about 100usd.
i have some detains photo,but this forum limit the upload size.

there is no fan, just a water pump motor and a water bottle.
one dc-dc circuit make a stable 26.2V output, i have test the tube output max power using this input voltage.
so i don't care the current.
the temp is just a little warm after turn on 10min.

Is #1 your DC to DC to make 26.2 volts to drive the ZVS? How about starting voltage?
I am thinking about tube longevity, if you limit voltage then like you say, no need to care about current.
Is it starting on just the run voltage, do you have it limited?
