405nm triggers the transition on my glasses, any other wavelengths do this?

Well I just got my $10 ebay 405nm earlier today and noticed something, if I shine it through my transition glasses anywhere the laser hits goes dark. Found this out by catching a bit of a reflection then seeing a dark spot. At first I thought this 5mw blinded part of my vision then I realized it was my glasses :crackup:. Anyone else notice this, or have said transition glasses and can test with other similar wavelength lasers?

Very cool! I just tried it on my old glasses, They've now been added to my laser box!
My 10mW 405 does it, but my 25mW 650 doesn't. I assume they work on UV light.

I have a laser box too! Just a lonely Uranium bubble in addition to the lasers in the at the moment. Need to steal someone's expensive glasses...

No need to steal, there is a website that you could get a set of glasses with the photochromic (transitions) for around $27. http://www.zennioptical.com Just go under the $8 frames, find ones with some huge lenses and pick the cheapest option that has photochromic then dump in random numbers for the prescription. When they arrive simply discard the frames .

Thanx for the links, I might get those after my safety goggles arrive. It seems dangerous to point a laser at glasses because the reflection/refraction through the curved/coated lenses might bounce back at me

Well it is, I caught a reflection at the focal point (focused it to light matches, ebay "5mw") in my right eye and 12hrs later still have a tiny tiny dot in my vision if I blink really fast and look at something white. Damn me for seeing if the laser could damage the photochromic coating. They offer an anti glare coating that could help. So if you get em simply angle away from ya or defocus the laser a bit. You can make some cool thin dark lines focused however.

I wish I could get a sheet of plastic/glass with this coating on it, would make a fun drawing board.
