Hi!
This is the run of the mill ebay 405nm AAA powered "Chinese" unit
I took the module and board out to check, everything looks fine, lens has no smudges. After first 3 days of use I left it alone in working order. Then I come back and it the dot is quite dim, not a focused beam like before. I've cleaned the lens, tried adjusting it and fresh batteries, still dim.
When I was first fooling around with it I shot it at some phosphorescent paint both on a substrate and in the bottle, it does not appear to be exciting the paint nearly as much as previously (as an objective "semi scientific" method to eliminate the possibility that my eyes just adjusted to the brightness or something.
The other new green model I also purchased has perfect visible beam in dim light, the purple did previously albeit more subtle...
The dot appears to be about the diameter of a pinky fingernail from 1-2 feet away with a dark spot in the middle. Focusing changes on the lens make no difference in overall brightness either, just diffuse it more.
