Introducing My Latest A SST-90 MAG-LITE... or is it a Star Cluster
After many month brushing up on my LED knowledge I felt comfortable enough to go forth and build some of these high powa units. First was the sAik XM-L2 build here. I always wanted a SST-90 mag so instead of simply buying one I decided to BUILD one:eg:

1. SST-90 from Kaidomain Luminus SST-90 WM W65S F3 LED Star
2. Massive 9A driver made by Der Wichtel here. I actually ordered it from our resident mag expert jayrob:beer: thanks Jay:bowdown:
3. Aluminum reflector like this one also sourced from jayrob.
4. Borofloat lens and yes jay man sourced again muhaaa:eg:
5. MAG-LITE from WalyWorld 19.99US special.:na:
I decided to go with a pedestal step on the sink for adjustability. The pic doesn't show, but I had to take the pedestal down to 4mm to get the focus right. The SST has such a high dome:wave:
I had thought about dedomeing the SST, but I would hate to expedite the degradation of this emitter.
One thing I did different than this pic shows is boring the rest of the driver up in the sink about another 8mm for the unit to sit flush against the switch. We are talking 18 gauge wire here folks... as it is Teflon, but a lot different then 24 gauge angel haired pasta used in our laser builds:wave:
Everything went very smooth after the wiring was completed. I was very happy with the results.
Beams, Of course my pics don't really show how bright this unit is. Most pics of course are camera dependent I am working on that.
About 30' away 20,000 gallon tank.
About 60' away, full moon I might mention
About 250' away

Now I have tested the driver and it is pulling 2.64A out of the cells and delivering 8.89A to the emitter. I'm using 32600 KD cells for a little over 12V, well 12.6V on fully charged cells. While the unit gets warm in NO time, after 3 to 4 minutes your like WOW that's hot:wtf:. I have future plans which includes a aspherical lens and eventually a different reflector I don't know at this point from what I've read I could use the aspherics with no reflector... you tell me LPF:thinking:.
Thank you in advance for looking have a good day:thanks:
